Sileo is clean, comfortable, affordable, and in a nice location, but what sets it apart is how much it feels like home. The owners, Alessandro and Maria, don’t speak much English, though their funny gestures usually get the point across. If you feel like chatting, they’re happy to share stories, talk about themselves, and give advice on transport and sights. Their daughters are accomplished too. Ana helps manage the hotel, while Stefania is an artist who made some of the lovely pieces displayed around the hotel. Lots of hotels try to make guests feel at home, but few do it as well as Sileo. If you want an authentic Italian experience, Hotel Sileo is a great choice, and it deserves the glowing recommendation from Rick Steves, widely considered the leading authority on European travel for Americans.

It’s great being only a five-minute walk from Termini, and the price is good. The rooms are dated, though clean. We stayed twice, and the WiFi was very weak in some rooms, depending on which one we got. Rick Steves recommends staying here too. An elderly couple manages the hotel; they don’t speak English and keep everything in cash and a paper diary.

The facilities aren’t new, but they’re well maintained and work fine. The rooms have air conditioning, a television, a closet, and tables and chairs. It’s a great hotel near Termini. The staff live there, and there’s no cafeteria available.

A friendly host.

The owners are an elderly couple, and they’re incredibly welcoming. It’s worth taking some time to chat with them. The hotel is a beautiful old building in the Termini area, just one block from the train station entrance. Its reception and facilities have the feel of an old Italian mansion, with dark, fine wood paneling and large windows. The rooms are very spacious, with a closet and desk, plus a bathroom in separate compartments, almost like an apartment. The building’s age is exactly what gives it its charm.
