Texas Hotel

The location is very good, and Rome is easy to explore on foot. Trevi fountain is about a 10 minutes walk away. But the hotel felt run down and smelled of smoke. It's actually the third floor of a building, with about 20 rooms, and getting in and out at night meant using different keys to access the floor, which took time. We paid for a private bathroom but were given only a small shower in the room, and the room we paid for was meant to have a double bed but had twin beds instead. We had to share a bathroom with other guests. There was no hairdryer, wardrobe, nightstands, TV, or air-conditioning in the room. Booking sites said there was a safe, but there wasn't one. My partner found an ant, and there were strange stains on the bedding. The wallpaper was peeling and the room smelled musty. I saw a review from 7 years ago describing the same room, and nothing has changed.

The room was clean and had the basic amenities, with a double bed and private bathroom. The owner and host was very friendly and happy to bring us extra pillows and towels. The booking description was accurate, and it would be hard to find a better location for the price. Do read the room details, since not every room has a private bathroom. WiFi was decent, and I got reception outside. I could hear some street noise, though it was much quieter after 11pm. If you're easily disturbed while sleeping, it might bother you.

The bathroom is rather small, and a few things need fixing, like the broken handle on my bedside table and the crack in the bathroom door window. Still, it was a great hotel and I'd recommend it to friends and come back if I had the chance. The street was quiet and easy to sleep in. There was no air-conditioning, but the fan was strong enough that we didn't need it. The reception guy was welcoming and really friendly, gave us great city recommendations, and was accommodating when we needed last-minute booking changes.

Getting there takes planning since there’s no reception, so you need to arrange your check-in time. The location is good and the landlord was okay, but the room felt tiny, old, and overpriced. There’s a heater, though it only works sometimes. Noise came from outside and inside the hotel, including voices from the hall and other rooms. Even flushing the toilet elsewhere was easy to hear, so sleeping was difficult.
