Hotel Urbis

We got an unexpected New Year's surprise from the hotel: a bottle of Champagne with glasses and a wish for the new year. The location was perfect for our next trip to Paris Bercy, since Rome Central Train Station is about 500 meters down the same street. There's a big shopping mall inside the station, and cafes on the street and in the station since the hotel doesn't serve meals. It's a real budget hotel, with small but clean rooms, two big beds, and a bathroom with a tub and shower. The water was hot. The lift is so small that about two people fit, so taking the stairs was usually easier.

Hotel Urbis is on the second floor, and the elevator is so small that a lot of big luggage will slow you down. The room itself was quite spacious, with one king-size bed and two singles. It also had its own bathroom, which is worth mentioning since some rooms in one-floor hotels don't. The location is great, just steps from Termini Station. Basic groceries, tourist information, currency exchange, restaurants, taxis, and public transport are all nearby.

I've been staying at this hotel since 02/08/2015, and I'm sorry to say it's been a bitter experience. The most serious problem for me was that nothing felt safe in the room. I tried to lock away my valuables, but my wife's Givenchy perfume, which I'd given her two weeks earlier, was stolen from the room. It left her psychologically upset and sick. Management is very poor. I booked and paid for the room 20 days in advance, but it had a blocked toilet basin and an air conditioner that leaked water into the room, leaving it wet and almost flooded. I complained several times. They said it would be fixed, but after three days of nothing, repeated hammering only partly cleared the basin blockage. They also advertise wifi, but couldn't provide it in the room, so I had to buy internet elsewhere. None of the staff could understand or speak even one word of English. I can't rate this hotel, I hated it. I'd warn everyone to book and stay here at their own risk and responsibility.

For the price, the room looked good, and the hotel is conveniently near the station. The place was perfectly fine overall. My only issue was the shared bathroom: several rooms used the same room for the toilet and shower, so expect to queue for the shower.
