Il Mare di Roma Luxury

We stayed in the red room (stanza rosa), with a big terrace and a sea view. Everything was brand new and perfectly clean, and the place made a great impression from start to finish. The building is well maintained and secure, with a nice entrance, despite what people say about it being old. Stela pollare metro station is a two-minute walk away, and you can take the Roma Lido train to Rome in about 40 minutes. It runs every 15 minutes. Jessica was lovely and even helped us print our boarding passes. Just around the corner on the right there’s a little Italian food shop restaurant with tasty hot food at excellent prices. A perfect stay, thanks Jessica!

The staff were very kind and friendly, and the room was cleaned every day. But the place wasn’t well organized. I’d booked a month and 20 days ahead, then arrived to find they had no reservation for me. Luckily, a room was free and they gave it to me. The bathroom was tiny, with no bidet or electrical outlet. The water heater was so small that there wasn’t enough hot water for a shower and shampoo. The bed was extremely low and uncomfortable, like a camping bed, and left me with a backache. The outlet was somewhere else as well. Given the trouble, I expected at least a small discount.

The hot tub was the main reason I booked, but I only used it on the first day. When I pressed its button, a strange sewer smell started, and later there was a fairly big puddle on the floor from a leak. The place had looked tidy at first, and the tub smelled nice then. I paid €70 for a small, dark room, with its only window looking out onto a dirty, dark, unpleasant courtyard. The B&B was supposed to include breakfast in the price, but I was told I had to pay for it when I arrived. Sleeping was difficult because of the very hard pillows and constant noise from other guests. The room wasn’t particularly clean either: there was a teapot on the floor, probably left by a previous guest, since I don’t smoke. Very poor value, wouldn’t recommend.

I paid €360 for three nights in a room with a whirlpool, but it didn’t work. They said they’d come during the day to fix it, but nobody did, and I only got €40 back. The rooms are so close together that you can hear everything from the others. Not a good experience.
