Leonardo Boutique Hotel Rome Monti

The area was excellent for seeing Rome, with plenty of good restaurants and bars nearby. Staff were lovely at check-in, and the room was clean and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed, good shower pressure, and a useful empty fridge. It was nicely presented and welcoming. The door didn't lock properly unless pulled firmly. One day we came back to find housekeeping had left it unlocked, so anyone could have entered. We reported it, but it wasn't fixed during our stay. The other big problem was the air conditioning, which the hotel advertises. It wouldn't turn on, and after we reported it, reception first said someone would fix it. Later, they said their system showed it working and asked us to check again. It still wasn't. They then said Rome doesn't allow air conditioning in winter under a city-wide rule. They showed us an Italian website as proof, but when we translated it, it referred to limits on heating, not air conditioning. That was frustrating and felt misleading. If air conditioning isn't available seasonally, guests should be told when booking. We had to sleep with the window open, so street noise kept us up. The room and location were good, and some staff were welcoming, but the unresolved security issue and the way the air conditioning was handled were disappointing. We wouldn't stay again.

There are lots of very good restaurants around, and the location is great, about 10 minutes from the Colisseum and all the sites. The hotel is small and friendly. The room was nicely decorated, and the mattresses were good, but we had a small problem with the shower's hot water. It kept turning hot and then suddenly cold. Breakfast had plenty of fresh choices and was good. You have to pay extra for an omelette or fresh orange juice. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

There are lots of restaurants, shops, bars, and cafes nearby, and the hotel works well for a city break. It’s closer to the Colosseum than the Vatican, which is useful to know. Rome itself is amazing and definitely worth visiting. The room was basic, though the fridge was handy and the bathroom was clean. The shower was decent, but they hadn’t refilled the soap, so we had to call reception. Staff were very friendly at check-in and gave us helpful tips on what to see and avoid. The reception service was decent overall. We were disappointed that the wellness room was out of order. It was one reason we booked, and we only found out when we went to reserve it, not at check-in. At checkout they also tried to charge us for breakfast we hadn’t had. It was sorted out, but nobody apologized.

The location is very convenient, and I can recommend the hotel for that. For me, though, the stay was a let-down. The lift is tiny and shared by guests and staff, and I waited over ten minutes for it one morning from a high floor. Breakfast was okay but very average. We also had no lights in the room for a while one day. I booked partly because the photos and description showed a sauna and spa. Neither was open during my stay. Staff said they planned to remove the pictures, but they were still online, and the hotel didn’t seem to offer anything to make up for it. At check-in they scanned my ID. When I asked what happened to the data, I was told it’s archived after you leave and you have to request its removal. I wish they’d explained this clearly and asked first. I’d check whether the sauna is actually open before booking, and be prepared for slow lifts and a basic breakfast. I hope they sort these things out soon.
