Lucky Holiday Apartments

The room was clean, the furniture was okay, and the service was great. They brought us fresh towels almost every day. But the location felt extremely sketchy. We saw what looked like a fight or robbery from our window, involving a masked man and some drunk or drug-using people who were often around. The neighborhood smelled of urine and trash, and we were nervous about walking back late in the evening in case we got robbed. This isn't where I'd choose for a lovely Rome experience.

The receptionist was very friendly, and the rooms were clean. The place is worn down, especially the doors and furniture, but it's fine if all you need is somewhere to sleep after sightseeing. The bed didn't squeak at all. Outside, there were many homeless people on the streets. The bathroom sink had no odor-blocking siphon, so the room smelled like a sewer. They tried to cover it with very strong scented sticks, but I don't understand why they didn't fix the problem properly. We plugged the drain and kept the bathroom window open to reduce the smell.

The owner was helpful, friendly and very nice, and the room and bathroom were clean. Room service made our beds each day. The location was near the train station and the price was relatively cheap, but the neighborhood was covered in graffiti and didn't feel like the best area. Still, we felt safe during our three-day stay. Our main problems were the broken air conditioning and Wi-Fi that kept disconnecting. The beds weren't very comfortable, either.

We booked last summer and found the floor sloped in one direction. The neighborhood was noisy in the evenings, and there were some minor thefts. On our final morning, we were woken at 6am by a public Muslim prayer in the street right outside our windows, with a few hundred people there, so we couldn't get proper rest. I have no issue with religious people, but I wish they'd told us about it beforehand. They also charged the tourist tax at check-in without telling us the exact amount in advance. That's unacceptable.
