Relais San Pietro

I loved having the rooftop terrace, and the room was very clean. The Vatican is only minutes away, which made the location a big plus. The room and beds were on the small side. Even with reception open 24 hours, the front door was always locked, so we had to buzz to get in every time.

The location is hard to beat, and the staff did try to help with the limited options they had. Still, I wouldn't stay here again. It felt more like a hostel than a proper hotel, and the second room we were moved to was noisy enough that we could hear the reception and lobby, so we barely slept there either. Our first room had two trash bags on the table when we arrived. They were removed straight away, but the AC was already known to be broken and wasn't due to be fixed until the next day. The fridge also didn't work, and after we complained to the night manager, we were given two cold waters. Then we noticed red-brown marks on the mattress. We raised it for the third time and said we weren't going to sleep on it. There were no other rooms, but after a long discussion they offered to refund the first night. The hotel's suggestion was to turn the mattress over, but there were marks on the other side too. After a short, hot night, we were given another room. Its AC worked and it was clean, but the toilet flush kept getting stuck. We had to use a cable at the back of it to stop the problem, and by then we were too tired to complain again. The receptionist spoke almost no English when we arrived, so we had to use Google Translate. Breakfast was described as “intercontinental,” but it was a coffee machine, white bread, ham, cheese, salami, and typical Italian items. There are good food options within a 10-minute radius.

I didn't get to try the breakfast, but the hospitality was excellent. The staff were very kind and helpful, and communication was easy in English as well as Italian. It's in a quiet spot near Vatican City and Ottaviana metro. I'd choose it again for a stay in Rome.

We had a really enjoyable stay. The room was large, clean, and very good, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. The neighborhood was quiet, with a metro station close by that can take you to almost anywhere in Rome.
