Residenza Cernaia

Great location and lovely management. I left my keys there, and six weeks later they were handed back to me. Thank you.

The air conditioning was a godsend, and the bus links are good, even though the place is a bit farther from the city centre than you might expect. That’s about the end of the praise. Online, you can’t really tell what it’s like, but I don’t think you can call it a hotel. It’s basically a floor of apartments with a lock on the door and an apathetic landlord. Staff are nowhere to be seen. The rooms are tiny, and the showers are even smaller. If you have mobility issues, the shower is a no-go. We had no hot water for half our stay. After we asked our mysterious phone contact a second time, they said, “rome is an ancient city and that water pressure means sometimes hot water goes”. I suppose everyone in Rome takes cold showers every night, then. I’d seen breakfast mentioned in some reviews, but this was the first I’d heard about it. Nobody told us anything about breakfast. We would have liked some, especially since banging and drilling upstairs had us up bright and early at 8am. Just what you want on holiday. It may be one of the more affordable hotels in Rome, but there are tradeoffs. I can’t recommend it.

The area felt safe and quiet, but it was close to supermarkets, pharmacies, bakeries, taverns, and various embassies. Residenza Cernaia is also centrally located, around a 10 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain and 15 to the Coliseum. The rooms were lovely and very clean, with air conditioning and private bathrooms, and they were very quiet. Breakfast was included and really good. The staff were kind and smiley. I recommend it.

The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom was good. The place and surrounding area were very clean, with beautiful historic buildings nearby. Breakfast was a really good, typically Italian one. Staff were friendly and very helpful, and the location was great, not far from Termini station.
