The best parts for us were the convenient location and the air conditioning. Buses and taxis are easy to catch nearby, there's a lovely restaurant just outside, and the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Spanish Steps are only a few minutes away on foot. The Colosseum, Forum, and other historic places are walkable too. It was also fairly quiet, and the small lift worked, though there are stairs as well, so this isn't accessible for people with mobility needs. Our experience was more positive than a previous reviewer's, who seems to have had much the same room. The staff member was nice and communicated with Google Translate, but only came for a short time on most of the four days we were there. It felt more like an Airbnb than a traditional B&B. The beds weren't great, though not the worst we've had in Europe. You sink right through the mattresses. Breakfast was very limited, and on our first full day we waited 40 minutes after the advertised start without anyone setting it up, so we went without. When it was served, it started at 8:00, which felt late when so many recommendations say to get out early before the heat. We never managed to have it during the scheduled times. There were pastries left out, which I appreciated, plus milk, a couple of juices, and hard-boiled eggs. There's an espresso machine, but no brewed coffee. Milk outside breakfast is technically there, but it's in a fridge marked for staff only. There was clearly black mold in several places in the bathroom, and I think it affected my wife and me. The mold and missing breakfast brought my rating down to four stars. Even so, I'd stay again for the convenience and the decent overall comfort.

The host at Residenza sciarra bed and breakfast was wonderful and communicated well, both in person and on Whatsapp. It's right in the heart of Rome, in a property with four bedrooms and a shared breakfast area. In the morning they served nice croissants, pastries, and coffee. Our room had a queen bed and a single, enough for me, my wife, and our 14-year-old son. It was clean, with a really high ceiling. The bathroom was also clean, though small and not great, and the sink had trouble draining. The shower worked fine, and the towels were fresh and clean. There isn't parking at the property. Paid lots are three minutes away, but cost a hefty 80 Euros for one night. We enjoyed our stay since we were out most of the time. It's a good option for couples or young people on vacation or a short business trip. I can't recommend the location and host enough. Go enjoy Rome.

La Papessa is very reasonably priced for what you get, right in the middle of everything. The Trevi Fountain and Pantheon are under a five-minute walk, and the Vatican and Colosseum are about 15-20 minutes away on foot. There are plenty of good restaurants and shops nearby, plus a pharmacy downstairs where you can get travel COVID tests. The reason I'd keep coming back is Caterina, the host and owner. She makes guests feel comfortable and is incredibly welcoming. After I booked, she asked about our flight details and arranged airport transport both ways, which arrived on time. She replied promptly to questions before we arrived, then met us for check-in, offered coffee, showed us the room, and shared a map and recommendations. We liked her so much that we booked another night for our return to Rome before our flight the next morning. When a flight problem came up early that morning, she kindly let us stay another night and found a pharmacy open on Sunday so I could get a new COVID test while we arranged a different flight. I can't say enough good things about her and hope to see her again.

The rooms were really cute and family-friendly, and they were always clean. We were welcomed at the door and always felt at home. Breakfast felt authentic and very European. The service was fit for royalty. I'd highly recommend it to other travelers.
