Rome Life Hotel

The breakfast was a real bright spot: lots of gluten-free options, great cappuccino and very nice staff. The rooms also started out promising. We arrived before 11am and one of our rooms was ready; both rooms were nice, with comfortable beds and good showers, and a staff member showed us everything and was very attentive. The hotel is well placed for walking to many attractions. Things went downhill when we came back and found the second room dirty, with dirt on the floor, hairs in the shower and toilet, and a sink that barely worked. The afternoon concierge didn't apologize, just said they'd fix it, which felt dismissive. The next day my wife's nightgown had gone. Again there was no apology, only a question about where to email if it turned up. That's no help when you're travelling with a limited number of nightgowns. The repeated lack of attention and the lost item really spoiled things. The hotel bar was another disappointment. It looked like an unused aquarium. We don't want to return, and two out of five stars doesn't feel like enough.

The staff are what make Rome Life special. Everyone we met was warm, professional and friendly, with smiling faces throughout the hotel. Alessandro at the bar deserves particular praise. He knows everyone and everything, and his passion for hospitality really shows. I also had the best Piña Colada of my life there. Our room was quiet, spotless and welcoming, with an extremely comfortable bed. It was serviced with real attention to detail, and the whole hotel was so clean. Breakfast was beautifully laid out, and the staff there were outstanding too. Well done, Rome Life Hotel, you made us feel valued.

The one thing that kept this from a five-star stay was the lack of room temperature control. We were there in late February and early March, and it was too hot to sleep comfortably without cooling. Opening the window wasn't an option because it was too noisy. At over $200 a night, I expect to be able to control the temperature and get a good night's sleep. Apart from that, we had no complaints. We enjoyed our seven nights at Roma Life hotel. The staff were terrific throughout, especially at breakfast, which was excellent. The location felt safe and was handy for restaurants and all the sites. We walked from the train station with small luggage, though it's a long walk, and then walked to all the major sights. The sister property in the same block has a gym that we used several times. Our room had a comfortable king bed, nice linens and pillows, a small fridge with some complimentary drinks at the start of our stay, and a coffee and tea maker. It was made up daily.

Giacomo's morning cappuccino, made and served by him, was a real highlight and a lovely way to start the day. Breakfast was good overall, and the staff were helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The hotel is well located for exploring on foot or by public transport, and the rooms were clean, comfortable and well maintained. The atmosphere felt modern and welcoming. We did notice a slight sewage-type smell near the entrance lobby, and the bathroom sliding door wouldn't stay fully closed, but the comfort, service and location more than made up for those issues. A solid choice in Rome that we'd happily recommend and return to.
