The agency staff were kind and helpful, but the apartment was nothing like the listing we had relied on. It was old, shabby, cramped, and full of the owner's things, with no renovation for decades. Although it occupied the ground and first floors, it was so dark that we needed artificial light all the time. The holiday rental listing described a recently renovated, "luxury" 90-square-meter apartment in central Rome, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Its professional-looking photos showed a bright, spacious home. What we found made the listing seem extraordinarily misleading.
