The staff are only at reception now and then, but they respond quickly on Whatsapp and are there when you need them. Booking directly wasn't practical for me because they required a bank transfer, so I paid a bit extra to book through a third party. The monastery feel wasn't quite what my wife hoped for, and the two nearby Italian restaurants we tried weren't particularly good. Breakfast was a good buffet, though it could have used fresh fruit. The room itself was clean and very quiet, with a comfortable bed, a working shower, and a small empty fridge that worked well. Ask for blankets if you need them, since the air conditioning is effective even in Rome's heat. There's no TV in the room, just a TV room on the floor that I didn't try, but the Wi-Fi is available. It's not close enough to walk to the major sights, but the metro is two minutes away at the end of the street. The area sits between two main roads with good buses to the center, and there's a supermarket and fruit stall nearby. The place was reasonably priced.

San Giuseppe House felt more like a home than a B&B, and the rates were very affordable for the location and facilities. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless, breakfast was hearty, and the staff did their best to make us comfortable. Sandra deserves a special mention for going out of her way for our toddler and the rest of us. I stayed four nights with my parents, husband, and baby. The metro is right outside the gate, three stops from the Vatican Museums and a few from Roma Termini. A new shopping mall is just meters away, with supermarkets, a pharmacy, and diners only steps from the house. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The staff were incredibly welcoming, and Vatican City was just a 15-20 minute walk away. I spent three days at San Guseppe with fellow members of the North East Catholic History Society. Very convenient!

Public transport is close by, which makes this a great base for commuters. It's also near the Vatican and its surrounding area, as well as the heart of Rome. The atmosphere is welcoming.

Avoid the summer, even May. They won't switch on the AC, and if you have to open the window, there are lots of mosquitoes.
