San Pietro Loft

The Wi-Fi they advertise didn’t work for us because the password they gave us was wrong. The ladder up to the bed is awkward, and you have to watch your head. The air conditioner also leaks, so we had to keep emptying the bucket. The place was dirty and sticky throughout. The shower was awful, the sink was inside it, and the showerhead holder was broken. Flushing the toilet sprayed water everywhere, leaving you wet. The stovetop was tilted, and we couldn’t use the microwave because it had no turntable. The landlord was a complete jerk. He only cared about us leaving the money and keys on the table, and wouldn’t answer our questions. We stayed in 2022, but I still wanted to record how dissatisfied we were. I hope things have improved a lot because the place badly needed it.

It’s a cute, welcoming place in an old building, at a good price for a fairly central location with great connections. One issue is the air conditioning: it has an internal exhaust pipe, and you need to empty the tank or the place will flood. The package apparently doesn’t include the drinks that are supposed to be used at a specific bar. We were also promised internet, but there wasn’t a connection, and mobile coverage was poor.

The location is convenient, just 200 meters from Lepanto metro station. This loft could be a gem if someone kept it in good shape, but our arrival was greeted by a broken entrance light. The Wi-Fi is just pocket Wi-Fi, and it worked about as often as it failed. The walls were extremely dirty and dusty. The bed’s mattress was smaller than its base, and the electric stove sometimes wouldn’t heat at all, so I wouldn’t recommend cooking on it. A heating pipe kept the room hot, reaching 27 degrees Celsius one night. There’s no real ventilation, since the windows are all on one side. I didn’t try the air conditioning because it was completely black with dust. The bathroom ceiling had mold, and some electrical outlets had exposed wires. The owner should rethink the cleaning and tidy the place up. They also asked us for the tourist tax without issuing an invoice or registering us.

We enjoyed the breakfast, served with very nice service at a nearby café. You get tickets and can choose a filled croissant with coffee or tea. The owner was helpful, too, and made it easy for us to find the morning airport bus. The apartment is a handy base for seeing Rome. The Vatican is about a 10-minute walk, and the Colosseum is around 4 km away. You can walk there in about an hour or take the metro right outside. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. A few things could be better: the TV didn’t work, though we didn’t mind much since we were there to sightsee. It might have been useful when we were tired and resting in the evening. The router kept crashing, so we had to reset it frequently. If you’re a light sleeper, the echoes and sound of people passing by might bother you, even though the area itself isn’t noisy. I’d recommend the place and would stay again.
