The hosts spoke English well, which made coordinating by WhatsApp easy. Right after I confirmed the booking, they messaged to arrange check-in and asked when I'd arrive, since I didn't yet have the building keys and they'd need to open the doors. We sorted out check-out and a time to collect my suitcase by text and voice call too. I especially appreciated being able to leave my bag there that morning, so I could go sightseeing into the early afternoon without dragging it around. As for the room, it was quiet, dark, clean, and a decent size. The split AC was very quiet, the shower water was hot, and the queen bed had just the right firmness. I could hear other people opening and closing their doors, but it was minor. No complaints about the room, and I thought it was very good value.

There was no reception, and the place felt dark and dirty. Someone yelled from a window asking if I'd rented there. It's an old residential building with some rooms put together. Noise came from all sides and was unbearable. There was electrical tape on live wires, the bed was hard and covered with cheap sheets that made it hard to sleep, and the old furniture wasn't even kept in good shape. I chose it because of the price, photos, and location, which was a mistake. After staying a couple of hours, I asked about a partial refund and was refused. Stay away. Most of the positive reviews look fake to me; I didn't scroll far enough to notice the bot review spam.

The apartment was okay, but we didn't enjoy it and wouldn't return. We booked for three, yet there was only one chair in the kitchen. The rooms were small, one of them tiny enough that anyone claustrophobic would struggle. The windows all faced a very small inner yard. The toilet had problems, the shower was tiny, and there was an unpleasant smell.

Sohel was so warm and welcoming that I stopped dwelling on the bathroom being separate from the room I booked, though it is private to that room. The staff also made a good impression when some accommodation problems came up. For one or two nights in Rome, it was a good experience. The room was lovely, the bed was nice, and I had all the essentials I needed. Overall, a good stay.
