We could have put up with the oddities of this “hotel”, like checking ourselves in, maze-like doors, no staff on site, and very limited amenities. The security was laughable, with everyone’s keys and names left in an open cabinet for self check-in. But the few perks they claimed to offer weren’t even there. Our mini fridge didn’t work, and the whole floor smelled like feet. I suspect the air gets moldy because these are closed corridors that aren’t meant to be a hotel. There’s no staff on site, so we had to sort it out over WhatsApp. After an hour, someone came to our door, but we were ready to go to dinner and had resigned ourselves to warm drinks. I messaged that we were fine and didn’t need more help, and they took that to mean the fridge worked. It didn’t. The back and forth wasn’t worth it on vacation, when time matters. We stayed in several similarly priced places in Italy, all with better amenities and service, including free or one-euro coffee, ice or ice buckets, cups in the room, and staff on site. The location was convenient, but not worth the gaslighting from staff, the uncomfortable beds, or the smell. To give credit where it’s due, the WiFi worked well and the AC worked.

The location worked really well for our tours to the Vatican, Trastevere neighbourhood, and the Colosseum, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants around. Buses go by the Inn often, and Rome's ATAC public transportation is pretty good. Google Maps can help you get around. Get a 24 h ATAC pass if you use public transport. We didn’t, and the police fined us 75 euro. We kept in touch with Gabriele on Whatsapp when we had questions or issues, which was helpful. The place operates more like a guest house with house cleaning than a hotel, but that was fine for us. Since COVID, the complimentary breakfast has been discontinued. There was no microwave, though one wasn’t listed in the description, so that’s just a suggestion. Our room was great, with a mini fridge, clean bathroom and good water pressure, plus a table and two chairs beside a large open window. The double bedroom faced the quiet inner courtyard. Some rooms face the street, so light sleepers might want to ask which one they’ll get. There was an oven in our room, but it wasn’t connected and didn’t work. The air conditioning was good in the warm weather in early October. There’s also a small elevator to help with heavy luggage going to the first floor.

The room was noisy and not a relaxing place for a holiday. This isn’t really a hotel, just a few apartments in a building, and some room amenities didn’t work. The keys are left out around the clock, so residents can get into other rooms. We saw people playing with them and trying different keys at night. There’s only one employee, who works very limited hours, arriving late and leaving early. At check-in, Gabriele gave us the wrong keys. We waited hours for him to come back with the right ones. It was nighttime, and despite arranging an evening check-in, we couldn’t get any response from the property. Afterwards, they acted as though nothing had happened and took no responsibility. It made me think this was normal for them. I can imagine accepting the safety risks if the price were hostel-level, but if you don’t want to be treated badly, don’t bother. We had so many pleasant stays in reasonably priced hotels around Europe, and this was by far the worst. I felt I had to post this to spare others the same experience. I also have screenshots to back up these claims.

We told the property more than five weeks ahead that we would arrive late, and they agreed to arrange self check-in. When we got there at 10pm, we picked up keys from a bar across the street, but Rome Inn Rooms had given us the wrong key for the hallway that leads to our room. We called the number they gave us more than five times and got no answer. Around 11pm, after we’d been on the phone with Expedia for over 40 minutes, Gabriele arrived and acknowledged that we hadn’t been given the right keys. He didn’t have the right ones himself, so we waited another 30 minutes before getting into the room. From 10pm to 11:30pm, we were stuck at night in a completely unfamiliar country with nowhere to stay. At checkout, Gabriele admitted it was their mistake, but they did nothing to compensate us or help. The manager’s treatment of us as customers was rude and completely unprofessional. If they’d owned up to the problem and treated us like people, I wouldn’t be writing this. Don’t stay here if you want to avoid worrying about a place to sleep while traveling. Save your stress, time, and money.

We were a family of three and had a very pleasant stay in an authentic old Italian building right in the heart of town. It was easy to walk everywhere, even the Vatican. The rooms were thoughtfully laid out and well kept. Our room faced the street, but shutting the windows completely blocked the traffic noise. There’s also a cute little dog who mans reception with his owner.
