Sunshine Hostel

I was worried after reading reviews on booking sites and Google, but my three-night stay was actually very comfortable. The place was clean, and there were no issues with an unclean bed or bathroom like others had mentioned. Staff cleaned both the room and bathroom every day. Any splashed water or mess might have come from guests using the bathroom, since even I splashed water despite being careful. My eight-bed room was mostly men during the stay, so Mohammed kindly moved me to a five-bed room at no extra cost. There's a microwave, a kettle for boiling water, and a fridge in the room. Guests have lockers with keys, so you don't need to bring your own lock. They're for valuables, though, and won't fit a suitcase or large luggage. The location is convenient, about 20 minutes from the main station and 30-40 minutes from attractions. It's a comfortable base for exploring Rome, as long as you don't expect fancy hotel standards from a budget hostel. For the price range during my stay, it was definitely worth it.

It was hard to find at night on a graffiti-covered street. Look for the plaques by the door where Google takes you, ring the bell, and wait. The mixed dorm felt a little odd, just a random collection of bunk beds. I didn't mind sharing with men, but some of the women seemed really thrown when the men showed up. If you're a man looking for somewhere to crash, I'd feel comfortable staying here.

A very comfortable stay, with clean rooms and a locker available. The managers, Jayanthi and Vishnu, were friendly.

The manager gave us a lovely welcome, and the bed was comfortable. I slept really well thanks to earplugs, and there are nice restaurants just a five-minute walk away. But the bedroom had no natural light because the shutters never opened. Nobody turned the light on in the morning either, since one man in the mixed dorm was working on his laptop until after midnight and was still asleep after 9am. There's no private place to get changed, and the shared women's bathroom has no surfaces for your things, just the floor or wall hooks.
