The mattress was covered in blood stains, which was the most shocking part. There was damp on the walls behind the sofabed, in the kitchen area, and on the bathroom walls and ceiling. Cobwebs were everywhere, and the skirting boards and picture frames had months of dust on them. The cooker and hairdryer had electrical problems and tripped the system when we tried to use them, and the iron had a dangerous lead. There was a strong smell of damp as soon as we entered. When I asked about the air conditioning, I was told it ran on the main building’s timer, off at midnight and on at 1pm, despite daytime temperatures of 35C. The suite may have been nice once, but it seems to have been neglected for a long time. After four days, she only made the bed and left four towels, despite charging an extra 40 euros for cleaning.

The bathroom needs urgent cleaning. The toilet had grime stains that made it repulsive. This apartment cost more than any other we rented during our stay, and we expected a clean, quiet place with working air conditioning for the price. Instead, we were very disappointed. The listing advertised wi-fi and air conditioning, and the photos made the apartment look clean and comfortable. Its location is convenient, right next to the Carabinieri Station and near nice restaurants in Trastevere. The apartment is on a busy street beside a parking garage with a heavy metal door that was used constantly through the night. It was too noisy to sleep with the window open. When we asked how to use the air conditioning, Alex hurriedly showed us how to switch it on and set the temperature, but it never came on. After we called, we were told it was central air conditioning that only the owner could turn on, and that we would have to wait until the next day. Alex kept saying the apartment was fortunately very cool, though it was warm inside and Rome had been hot for several days. The next day he said the owner had agreed to turn it on during the day just to refresh the apartment. We explained that we needed it to cool the apartment and help keep the noise down. They finally turned it on from 10pm to 4am, still insisting the apartment was cool even though we repeatedly said it wasn’t. This wasn’t a communication problem. One of us speaks fluent Italian and lived in Perugia for more than 40 years. Dear Garibaldy Suite owner, we’re the clients, and we decide whether the place feels cool. We paid for the air conditioning and should be able to choose whether to use it. Please don’t advertise amenities you aren’t willing or able to provide. Your attitude felt inconsiderate and patronizing.

The sofa bed seemed dirty and smelled pretty bad. I think it should be cleaned before the next guests use it. The apartment itself was clean and well located. The initial price seemed reasonable, but the cleaning fee and city tax made it more expensive.
