Trastevere Decò Apartment

***RENTERS BEWARE. Stayed for a week.*** The apartment itself is nice, but our week there had far more downsides than upsides. It was 27-30°C inside, including 28°C at midnight, and there’s no A/C. If you wouldn’t stay in a non-AC hotel in Florida in July, think carefully before booking this place. There wasn’t even a fan, so we had to buy our own at a nearby shop. A stand-up fan there cost 24€, and the host could have provided a few. With the bedroom doors shut, there’s no cross-breeze, so privacy meant sweating through the night. Opening the windows didn’t solve the heat. Around 10 p.m. the street gets noisy with trams, three rounds of garbage dumping, fights, and ambulances passing every ten minutes or so. There are no screens, so bring bug spray. In the morning, roosters can be heard out back. The road in front is loud all the time, and we couldn’t get a quiet evening. Transport is close, which is handy, but it also brings a lot of noise. The beds were extremely firm and uncomfortable. There are only two queen beds; the others looked like twins or fulls. Shower water kept shifting from warm to cold and back, even with the tankless heater. There’s also a hot-water tank, but it was set to just 30°C. The neighbors may ring your buzzer if they don’t like piano playing, apparently it causes problems for them. We also weren’t told where the gas knob for the range was and had to search for it ourselves. Be prepared for a city tax of 180€ at minimum or as much as 500€. The local food was delicious, and the apartment is close to sights and sounds. I’d rate this rental 3 out of 10.

The owners are so kind and helpful, and the apartment itself is well worth a visit. Its furnishings and decor have a lovely early 20th-century feel.

The building’s elevator made quite an impression on me. I felt comfortable in the apartment, which has an old-fashioned interior, and I’d recommend staying here.

The hosts were incredibly friendly, and we had a wonderful time at Trastevere Decó. The apartment’s early 20th-century character comes through in its lovely decor and stained-glass windows, while it still has all the amenities you need. With spacious rooms and several bedrooms and bathrooms, it worked well for our family. Getting into the city center was easy on foot or by public transport.
