We used Rita’s 'Centro Roma Trastevere Lovely House' for three nights while exploring Rome. This is one of several holiday apartments in the building, each let by a different person. The location worked really well as a base: Trastevere is across the river from central Rome, but most of the famous sights are within about a 30-minute walk. We walked to Vatican City, Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon without any trouble. There are shops and restaurants right outside, and we liked eating out and getting gelato. The area felt safe to walk around. It could be noisy at night, though it didn’t bother us much, and I imagine that’s common anywhere in the city. Inside, the apartment is nicely decorated and furnished. The small cooking area had what we needed, including a coffee maker and complimentary coffee pods. The main room combines the kitchen, dining space, and sitting area. From there you go through a double bedroom to a second bedroom, with two single beds and another bed on a raised level reached by a small staircase. That setup suited our family, but wouldn’t give friends sharing the place much privacy. There’s no comfy sofa, and the windows face an internal courtyard, so there isn’t much natural light or a city view. We didn’t meet the host, but the key collection instructions were clear and our questions got quick replies by message. Tourist tax is paid on arrival, as with other holiday lets in Italy. We had a lovely time and would happily recommend the apartment as a base for seeing Rome.

The location was great, but this was my worst apartment stay. The bed was awful and so uncomfortable that we couldn’t sleep well. The place wasn’t clean, and the Wi-Fi connection was terrible. On arrival, when we were tired and it was late, the owner surprised me by insisting on an extra €49 for what she called “Roman taxes.” I told her I’d already paid everything through Booking, but she kept insisting. I really don’t recommend this apartment.

From this beautiful place in a charming, atmospheric part of Rome, you can walk to everything.
