Tula Inn

The room was in great shape, and we really appreciated having all the supplies there. We stayed for four days and had a blast. The host made us feel welcome, and after travelling from the UK, it was lovely to find somewhere so clean and tidy in a good location. Highly recommended.

I paid extra for a refundable booking, but the cancellation period had ended the day before I asked to cancel. All flights from Israel to Rome had been cancelled because of the war, yet my request was turned down straight away, and nobody replied to my emails. I’d already heard bad things and seen the average reviews, but booked anyway. One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. If you’re hoping for understanding or flexibility, don’t count on it.

The best thing about the place is where it is. We could get to Trastevere for nightlife and the main sights for daytime exploring without much trouble. After a cancelled flight, we needed to stay an extra night in the city, and the second hotel charged its tourist tax online. Here, the owner said the tax went to the city and was fine to pay, but insisted on cash. That struck us as odd. Otherwise, service was good: we were welcomed, shown how everything worked and given the keys. Being able to check in at 10 a.m. after our 6 a.m. flight helped, and at checkout we could leave our bags and return later to collect them. The room was adequate if, like us, you mainly need somewhere to sleep before heading out. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked fine, but there was mould in the bathroom, shower tiles needing attention, and scuffs and marks all over the bedroom walls. The photos on hotel sites are misleading, so don’t expect luxury. My partner and I had booked after reading only the Booking.com reviews, and it was neither the best nor the worst place we could have stayed.

The staff were super friendly, and the room was clean and tidy, with good shared facilities. It’s centrally located for exploring Rome. The room could use a bit more furniture, maybe a chair and bedside tables. I’ll definitely come back, and this will be the first inn we try. Would recommend it to anyone.
