Mayola Hotel

Our car broke down while we were on holiday, leaving us without transport. We had a non refundable booking and asked several weeks ahead if they could cancel it for free, but they refused. I emailed to ask again and got another outright refusal. We’d already spent several thousand euros dealing with the disaster, yet they still insisted on keeping our money. There was no sympathy for our situation, and the service was horrible. I wouldn’t want to stay with people who seem so greedy and hard hearted.

We stayed for 10 nights in July 2024. The location on the beach promenade was good, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was cleaned and towels changed daily. The lady who cooked the scrambled eggs was especially nice. Breakfast offered no variety. There’s a saltwater pool, but sunbeds cost extra, 32 euros. The lunch and dinner buffets had no children’s menu, and children paid the same 27 euros as adults. The room’s mini fridge was the smallest I’ve seen, barely large enough for a water bottle.

The plastic glasses were a letdown, and breakfast was hardly a breakfast at all. Non Italians were sent to a separate cafeteria with stale bread rolls, one plate of sliced cheese, and one plate of salami for everyone in the room to share. Italians, meanwhile, could eat proper meals in a second cafeteria. When we tried to go in there, a waiter shouted at us in Italian and physically escorted us back out. We all paid the same price for the same rooms and services. Unless being treated like it’s the March on Rome sounds appealing, don’t come here.

We stayed two nights with breakfast included, and liked the location, the price, and the attention we got from everyone, from reception to the cleaning staff. But breakfast was uncomfortable both days because I saw the head waiter mistreating his subordinates in front of guests. It seemed inhumane and impolite, and I can only imagine how it feels to work under that pressure and bad energy. People should feel comfortable, respected, and valued at work, which is like a second home. This kind of treatment can cause emotional harm to people trying to earn an honest wage. I hope the hotel takes this criticism into account. I left feeling bad at a time that should have been relaxing and part of a holiday.
