AVOID AT ALL COSTS, Gigliotto. We stayed here with GB motorhome tours, and at first it looked idyllic. The camper parking area smelled foul, like stagnant water, with large tanks of slimy, disgusting water nearby. The property wasn't being cleaned, and the pool looked as if it hadn't been maintained or cleaned for a very long time. It had debris, tissue paper, and loose tiles in it, making it a health and safety hazard and an accident waiting to happen. We were served meals in a function room by extremely unhappy, miserable staff. Tables were cleared before we'd finished eating, and we were told the restaurant was closed even though we were still within its opening hours.

The estate sits in a beautiful spot above a valley, and early in the morning we could see Etna across the island. We really enjoyed our stay. Our room was pleasant, and the bathroom was clean and practical, though the shower door was awkward to use. At dinner, only two couples were there. The meal was fairly basic but tasty, served in a friendly way with a full bottle of wine. The highlight was a lovely tasting with Giuseppe, who paired three wines with food. The next morning he showed us around the winery, explaining where the wine is made and how it all works. He was very friendly and welcoming.

We had a wonderful time, from the warm welcome by the friendly staff to breakfast on the terrace overlooking the estate. Dinner was a generous three-course meal made with delicious fresh produce from the property. The homegrown olives were fantastic, and we loved the red house wine so much that we bought a few bottles from the cellar the next day.

The highlight of our visit was the Mayday lunch arranged by the owner. It began with a drink and appetizers on the restaurant's spacious terrace, then continued inside with delicious local dishes. Giuseppe, the reception manager, also showed us the wine-making facilities, and we bought some locally made wine. We stayed for two nights in late April. The grounds are large and parking was easy. Our simple room was clean, the bathroom worked well, and the large terrace had a fantastic view over the vineyards and nearby village. We felt welcome and cared for the whole time. On our first evening my husband felt unwell, and the restaurant manager at Gigliotto, whose name I unfortunately don't know, was exceptionally caring and attentive. We also appreciated how easy it was to reach from the highway. We were driving our own car, and unlike similar places in the area, there were no kilometers of bumpy road to deal with. Many thanks to Signor Elio Savoca and his team. We hope to return soon!

The staff were lovely, and dinner, with its selection of local food, was excellent. The rooms, though, seem to have deteriorated, and it feels like money isn't being put into repairs. My bed squeaked so badly that even the smallest movement woke me up during the night. This place seems past its golden age.
