Agriturismo Il Rigo

Breakfast comes with a lovely selection of local honey and jams. The hotel feels cozy and family-run, with very friendly staff, and it’s in a beautiful spot in Val D’Orcia.

The rabbit was the best protein dish I’ve ever had, and watching my wife try to eat Bugs Bunny/Peter Rabbit had us laughing uncontrollably. We didn’t stay at the agriturismo, just came for the four-course tasting menu, but it turned into the best dining experience of our 10-day Tuscan trip. The food and whole experience were unbelievable, with a gorgeous sunset view. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The gardens were a joy, and the countryside was greener than we’d expected, even though plenty of fields were brown. We spent nine days at il Rigo and would happily do it again. The people made the stay. Everyone was welcoming, helpful, and lovely to spend time with. They felt like new friends. Lucia was a ray of sunshine whenever we saw her, Noemi helped us with local information, and Matthias gave us an enjoyable and useful wine lesson. Our room was in the second building. It was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a great view, a roomy bathroom, and good bed and pillows. The grounds and buildings were well cared for. It felt like a proper Tuscan stay. There’s a kettle and a refrigerator/freezer in the shared area. Laundry on site was, I think, 35 Euro. We drove into town to use the laundromat for the experience and spent about 20 Euros. We had several fantastic dinners there. Some dishes on the menu may seem unfamiliar, but the preparation was delicious, so we were glad we tried new things. Breakfast was a lovely start to the day, especially when the rich chocolate dessert leftovers from the night before showed up. Dessert at breakfast? That’s vacation. We brought an electric car. il Rigo doesn’t have charging, which we hadn’t expected, but we found stations easily enough. The car managed all but the roughest roads, which were really tractor paths. There’s plenty of free parking. It’s been two weeks since we left and we’re still talking about the stay. We rated it for what it is, not against the Ritz-Carlton or the Orient Express La Dolce Vita, though it would earn five stars alongside much pricier places.

The dinners were the best part, and the views all around the hotel are lovely. Such a quaint, delightful place. We’ll send friends and family back here ASAP!
