Sanremo’s food is a big part of the appeal, from seafood and handmade pasta to Ligurian favorites like focaccia and pesto. Local wine goes nicely with it, and the markets and festivals give you a feel for the city’s traditions. The annual music festival is another sign of how much music, art, and history are part of life here. There’s plenty of time for the beach too. The Ligurian Sea is clear, and you can pick sandy stretches or rocky coves for a swim, some sun, or just a quiet break by the water. The promenade is lovely for a walk, with cafés where you can stop for gelato. La Pigna, the old town, has narrow lanes, old churches, and pretty little squares that make it feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. Around it, Sanremo has lively streets, elegant buildings, and a warm Mediterranean feel. It’s known as the “City of Flowers,” and it really does have a special atmosphere. A lovely Italian Riviera destination if you want some beach time, culture, and good food.

It’s a fairly clean station underground. The walk through the tunnel to the platforms is a long one, and the moving walkways on both sides are being repaired. Locals say the work has been going on for months and could last several more.

There’s a nice garden outside where you can sit, and the trains were on time when I was there. The station isn’t especially pretty and doesn’t offer much in the way of facilities, but I had no real issue with it once I allowed an extra ten minutes to walk to the platforms. I wanted to add that after seeing the one-star reviews.

The station has no seats on the platforms at all, just tiles and two tracks, and the tunnel is just as bare. In August 2025, during peak season, both travelators were under construction. Once you get off the train, you’re faced with a tunnel leading to the exit, and when we were there we saw no other passengers. I don’t know how much crime there is around here, but the layout felt like a mugger or rapist could take advantage of it. You’d have to hope you could outrun them, and that only helps if you’re running out, not in. It feels outright dangerous in the modern world we live in. I can’t think of another train station that makes so little sense. Still, none of this reflects on delightful Sanremo, the town it serves.

This is a modern station, a bit different from others along the Ligurian coast. Getting from the entrance to the platforms takes a fair while. If you walk slowly, have short strides, or are carrying heavy luggage, give yourself as much as 15 minutes.
