Grand Hotel Due Golfi

The bay view from our big, clean, fresh-smelling room was mesmerizing. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was generous. We stayed a few nights in early May, and everything felt just right. The hotel is up in the mountains above Sorrento, with parking and a free shuttle running to the centre several times a day. The reception staff were very kind and helped us more than once. They arranged a full-day trip to Capri for us, suggested a motorbike rental company and local restaurants, and even called one of the restaurants to book a table. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner too, though we only ate there for breakfast. The pool was open, but it was a little cool while we were there, so we didn't swim. The infinity pool looks perfect, though. We'd recommend the hotel, and we'd stay here again if we return.

Sorrento worked really well as a base for getting to so many beautiful places, and the hotel's free shuttle there ran several times a day. It saved us a fortune and was so handy. The staff were brilliant, so friendly, and couldn't do enough for us. We were especially taken with the hotel's incredible pool and views, which were the main reason we booked. They didn't disappoint, the views were breathtaking! The food was amazing too. We've just come back from a wonderful stay, and can't wait to return. Thanks to all the staff for making it so special.

The drivers, restaurant manager, and reception team all made us feel so welcome and looked after. Everyone was warm, caring, and easy to communicate with. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and in great condition. We had a wonderful stay and would happily come back. Highly recommended.

The view is lovely and the area around the hotel is peaceful. The hotel itself made that hard to enjoy. In three nights it was easily the worst stay of my two-week trip through Italy, and my partner agreed, if anything, they'd be harsher. I don't understand the good reviews. The photos are doing a lot of work for a tired, austere place that feels overmanaged and rules-heavy. We got in around 7pm after eight hours of travel and found out the restaurant needed reservations, though no one had told us beforehand or at check-in. We couldn't get a snack by the pool or even an appetizer. Room service had a separate, much smaller menu with pasta, a cheeseburger, or a ten-minute walk into the dark for actual food. We walked. The hotel is 20 minutes from Sorrento, and cabs won't come get you. They charged €40 a day for a second guest, even though our booking price was the same for one or two people. I was told it was for “linens.” Breakfast was generously worth five euros. Lose a plastic keycard and there's a charge. You get one pool towel and have to carry it back and forth to dry in your room. Leave a wet one by the pool and you'll be charged for that too. Miss a booked shuttle slot and you pay; the times are limited, and the rules are made very clear. The pool bar only serves food from 12 to 2:30, so there's no afternoon grazing. The pool “closes” at 7pm, before sunset, and staff start taking away chairs around 6. I got several cheerful warnings that it would close in ten minutes, without even a hello. The restaurant also has an “elegant” dress code, which feels bold for a hotel this inelegant. Breakfast ends at 10, but they stop refilling food around 9. It's the same every day, and the coffee machine has no business operating in Italy. The bar says it's open until midnight but is often just closed. The pillows are flat and dense, the all-polyester comforter made me sweat, and the walls are paper-thin. Tile floors and chairs without felt pads mean every neighbour's movement makes a horror-film screech. Cleaning starts at 8am and goes on all day. Even with silicone earplugs, I had the worst sleep of my trip. This place only works if you're in bed early, up early, and out all day. The lighting is bright white LED throughout, and the decor needs a complete gut renovation. People met questions with stares and a kind of curious judgment, as if we were the inconvenience. Inflexible at every turn. Avoid it. Plenty of places want your business without inventing a hundred little ways to show otherwise.
