Mangia's Sardinia Resort

We were wary after reading the one-star reviews, so we arrived with low expectations. Four nights later, we thought the hotel was lovely. The rooms are modern and comfortable, the beach water is crystal clear, and the staff were friendly, even when English wasn’t something they spoke. The beach gets busy, but the hotel has its own lounge areas. We usually found a place around midday, even if it wasn’t in the front row, and didn’t feel we needed to pay €50 for those loungers. Housekeeping was the one real problem. Our room wasn’t cleaned during the first three nights, despite us following up several times. Reception apologized and explained that cleaning is handled by an outside contractor, which made sense, though it still needs fixing. That’s not enough to justify a one-star review. Compared with other Sardinian hotels at similar prices, Mangia’s is good value. They’re still working through housekeeping issues, but it’s a beautiful hotel with room to improve.

The pool was the one thing that let us down. By the end of our holiday there was quite a bit of dirt on the bottom, and the beach wasn’t the prettiest in Sardinia either. Everything else made for a wonderful stay. The grounds were lovely and well cared for, the room was cleaned every day, and the food was fresh, varied, and tasty, with something different to try. In the evenings there was live music or a DJ. Staff were polite and quick to help: when we found there was no blanket for my son’s bed at check-in, reception sent one up within ten minutes. I don’t really understand the negative reviews. Despite those two small drawbacks, I’d happily recommend the hotel and come back.

The beach was the highlight for me. I tried several others around Sardinia, and this one was easily my favorite. The breakfast also had a huge range of choices and was excellent. At Mangia Sardinia Resort, reception gave us a warm welcome, and service stayed quick and efficient throughout the resort. The room was spotless, with housekeeping cleaning it every day. My stay was excellent and better than I expected. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Sardinia.

The rooms were a decent size and nicely decorated, and I was glad I’d booked a Superior room. The beach was pleasant too, with a nice beach bar, though it closed for a few days during the corporate event. Maid service was sporadic, perhaps once a week if you were lucky, usually late in the afternoon. The big problem was how the hotel handled its corporate client, Candriam. They seemed to take over the whole place at the expense of paying guests. There were loud parties until 2am, and reception’s response was basically ‘so what?’ Other unhappy residents I spoke with said they planned to contact the tour operator too, and I will as well. Food was disappointing. The hot breakfast choices were poor and the buffet sparse. The soft drink machine was broken the whole time, apparently with no gas. I also wasn’t told to book the pizza restaurant ahead, so I never ate there. No great loss, since there are much better places to eat outside the hotel. Would I return? Probably not. They need to make customers feel like the priority.
