I Poggi di Saint Caterina

Mr. Paolo was so friendly and kind that he might be the reason we return. The pool looked lovely, but it was under construction, and I’d suggest paying more attention to the outdoor areas. Some tables and chairs near the pool would be nice. We stayed for two nights. The B&B is in the owners’ former home, with furnishings from the house and a 1970s-1980s style. Our room was very large, as was the bathroom, which had a tub. The mattresses were old and hard, and we slept badly since we’re used to newer ones. Breakfast was all sweet things: snacks, croissants, yogurt, and juice. The location is excellent for getting to La Spezia and other nearby seaside areas. Aside from the quiet, that’s how we found it.

The owner was really nice and made us feel welcome, and the location is a strong point. There’s a pool too, which can be handy in this heat. The rooms were made from a private residence, though a refresh would help.

The breakfast was varied and delicious, and it was served with real kindness. The manager was very approachable and friendly. We stayed with our family to break up a trip to the sea, but this would also make a great base for a longer trip to see the lovely places nearby. Un Poggio is a charming, comfortable, peaceful family villa with a pool. It’s very close to the center of Sarzana, while still tucked away from noise and crowds. Highly recommended.
