B&B Alla Stanga

After a seven-day hiking trip, we stayed the night and felt very welcome. The rooms are clean and thoughtfully put together, with a sense of the family history behind the place. The only drawback is the busy road right outside, so we had to keep the windows shut at night. We also ate here: the food was delicious, specially made and beautifully presented, and the waitress was so kind. A great choice for a meal or a stay.

The bar was the highlight for me. By the little open fireplace, the cook made hot polenta and fresh zabaione to order. The zabaione was airy and melted away as soon as I tasted it, and the crunchy butter biscuits made a lovely treat after a long hike. They also have meatballs, boiled eggs and charcuterie boards. Prices seemed fair for the quality and the cozy, unusual setting. The restaurant didn’t impress me as much. There’s lots of seating and the menu leans heavily on meat, but the dishes lacked a wow factor. The tagliatelle were cooked well, though the duck ragù was tender and quite sparse. The well-known veal starter with onions was too oily and short on flavor. Portions felt small, and the prices high for what arrived. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I’d come back for the warm fireplace atmosphere at the bar. The restaurant could improve its flavors and value.

After Alta Via 1, this was such a comfortable place to finish up. The beds were nice, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Our host was warm and lovely.

We missed the bus after finishing the Alta Via 1 and ended up staying here. It turned out to be exactly the sort of place we wanted after the hike, with beautiful food, welcoming staff and a comfortable room. Top marks, I’d absolutely recommend it.
