Camping Siena Colleverde

Area 7's tent pitches sit right under streetlights that stay on all night. There's nowhere to escape the glare, so sleeping was awful. If you like reading by the light all night, you won't need a lamp; if you want to sleep, it's terrible. Next time I'd save 41€ and sleep under a city streetlight for the same experience. Two stars because the staff are friendly and the restaurant and bar are nice.

The pitches were pretty nice, and the campsite is within walking distance of the city centre, though getting there involves some climbing. There's also a nearby bus stop if you'd rather take it into the centre. The facilities were fairly clean. They're at the top of the hill, so even though our pitch was nearby, it takes some climbing to get there from the bottom.

The pool was a highlight for me, with deep water, lots of greenery around it, and plenty of comfortable places to sit and relax. Just remember a swim cap, since they require one. I was sorry diving wasn't allowed because the depth seems ideal for it. The campground is one of the best I've visited in Tuscany. The tent area could use more level spots, and the trees help with shade and atmosphere, though the electricity and water access could be better. Showers and toilets were clean and roomy, with soap and toilet paper stocked.

We arrived by chance during a Palio weekend and were still able to get a spot. Siena's center is an easy walk away, as are the train and buses for Florence, San Gimignano, and other places. The pool was lovely for adults and children, with rules against diving, jumping in, and ball games that were generally well enforced. Some people left towels on seats to reserve them and never came back, which didn't seem fair.
