The single room worked fine for me, with a comfy bed, pillows, and toiletries provided. The building's rustic feel suited the town, even if it could use some improvements. I arrived late and the host walked me through check-in on a WhatsApp video call. There’s a kitchen, though I only used the fridge. The location is a big plus: just a short walk to the main squares, so you can explore late at night or early in the morning. Getting here from the main train station or intercity bus stop is less convenient. It’s under 2 km, but Siena is hilly, so bulky bags are worth considering.

The host was friendly and quick to respond, but I still moved out of the Dei Rossi apartment after a week because there were too many problems for the price. The bed and pillows were extremely hard, and on the fourth floor I could hear everything from the fifth: people walking and talking, toilets flushing, all of it. The shared kitchen felt bleak, with harsh lighting, no windows or natural light, and motion-sensor lights that shut off every five minutes when you sat still. The kitchen supplies were sparse, and some, like the cutting board, were very worn. I bought a couple of things for my longer stay, and there wasn’t even salt, pepper, or olive oil. On arrival, the floors were dirty, my sheets were stained, and the furniture looked worn. Several cushioned chairs had big stains on them. It didn’t feel clean.

The room was small but comfortable, and my single bed space was big enough. The bathroom was tiny, though thoughtfully fitted out for such a beautiful old building. Everything was clean and tidy, the host was great, and the B&B was good value. Just fantastic.

The worst part came the next morning: my girlfriend woke up covered in red marks. We first thought it might be an allergy, but after she saw a doctor, we were told they were from bedbugs. When I asked the hotel for a refund, they said the marks could have been caused by anything. They later tried to apologize by sending a disinfection report from a year earlier, but said there was nothing they could do. A week later, I’d spent enough on medication, and I was still worrying that the bugs might get into my home or affect my pets. We’d stayed just one night. I noticed a moldy smell in the room but didn’t pay much attention at the time; other guests have also reported smell and cleanliness issues. I hadn’t planned to leave a review or discredit the hotel, but they did nothing to help. I recommend avoiding it.

We enjoyed our stay a lot. The host was really friendly, and the place was clean and in a great part of Siena. We were missing soap and toilet paper in our room, though.
