Algila' Ortigia Charme Hotel

We love the Algila Ortigia Charme Hotel so much that we booked our fourth visit before our third one had even ended. The hotel sits right across the street from the Ionian sea, and many rooms have lovely sea views. In about 10 minutes, you can walk to popular spots on the island, including the Temple of Apollo, the daily food market, Piazza Archimedes, and Piazza Duomo, as well as plenty of restaurants and cafes. Breakfast is included and generous, with choices ranging from coffee and pastries to eggs made to order and aranchini. The rooms are all different, charming, and comfortable, with complimentary water and soft drinks in the mini fridge each day. What stands out most is the warm, helpful staff. They go above and beyond to make sure guests have what they need, and they can advise on and book local eateries and experiences. This hotel is a gem.

Getting here with Google Maps was easy, and we used the valet service for our rental car, which was nice. The hotel is charming, very clean, and an easy walk from Ortigia’s sights. We chose a superior room and were glad we did: the size felt just right. If you’re used to US-sized hotel rooms, anything smaller would feel pretty cramped. My one complaint is the mattress. It was too firm and bouncy, and I woke up whenever my husband moved.

We liked this place a lot. The decor is chic and has a successful boutique feel, with a clear vision behind it. It’s in Ortigia proper, overlooking the sea, and the design has been very nicely thought through and carried out. Desk service was five-star, classy, and a little formal. Breakfast was ample, and the service was efficient and accurate. We paid extra for them to take care of our rental car and bring it back when needed, since parking in Ortigia would be very ambitious. Recommended.

The location is beautiful, just across a small Piazza from the Ionian Sea. Our superior room was incredible, with a big closet entryway, a spacious bedroom, and a balcony. The bathroom was larger than ours at home and had a rain shower. The bed was very comfortable, and the towels and sheets were wonderful. The newer annex across the street brings a modern touch while preserving the area's older architecture.
