Our few days in Sicily started at Villa Amateia, in a stunning spot overlooking the sea at Punta Milocca in the Plemmirio protected area. The beach has been eroded away, so you reach the water by a wooden walkway. It’s a bit uncomfortable, but it works, and the crystal-clear water makes for a wonderful swim. The house was spotless when we arrived, and both the host and receptionist were incredibly friendly and helpful.

If you're looking for a break from the city, this place is a good fit, though it's hard to reach without a car. Syracuse is 15 km away. There are four apartments in the house, and the upstairs ones have balconies with direct sea views. Tap water is salty and can't be drunk, so you'll need to buy water at a store. I recommend it.

The sea was clear and warm, and the villa had every comfort and convenience. With its stunning location, it feels like living on a ship. I hope I can come back.
