A small, charming hotel in beautiful surroundings. The rooms were okay, breakfast was good, and the staff were excellent. Just right for a stressful stay.

Sovana is such a charming little town, one of my favorite villages I’ve visited, and the hotel is delightful too. It’s an ideal base for driving to Saturnia hot springs and the Etruscan necropolis archaeological site. The grounds are beautiful, with a wonderful pool and lots of free parking on site. Inside, the hotel was quiet, the bed comfortable, and the A/C kept me cool. The staff were friendly and professional, and breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

The pool and area rugs were nice, but that’s about all I liked. The grounds were unkempt, and the furniture looked very old and dated. No one told us how to check in or where to park. Parking is in a separate area that’s hard to find, and we weren’t given the gate code. Breakfast was all store-bought, and the eggs looked like they’d been sitting out for hours. The A/C barely cooled the room, especially the loft bedroom. When I complained, I was told to keep the shutters closed. It didn’t help, and it left us feeling like we were in a dungeon. The shared spaces were dark and warm too. It seemed like they didn’t want to spend money on lights or cooling in summer. For what they charge, the experience is way too poor. Spend your money somewhere else.

The staff were incredibly professional and accommodating during our stay, and in July the place was almost deserted. Set right in the heart of Sovana, it has a stunning garden, a pool, and even a secret maze. It’s a great base for exploring the area, or you can just unwind by the pool.
