Grand Hotel De La Ville

It’s just outside the main shopping district and very close to the train station, which worked well for us. The hotel is nicely appointed, with friendly service, a good breakfast, and a rooftop pool and sun area overlooking the bay and Mount Vesuvius. My only complaint was the evening bar server couldn’t work out how to make a decaf americano, although he could make a decaf espresso. Might be a training issue?

We expected a special, premium stay for the last few days of our honeymoon, given the price and the reviews. Instead, service was average, and nothing felt particularly elevated. The food and overall atmosphere were also things we could find nearby for a fraction of the cost. There wasn’t anything especially wrong, but at this price the whole experience should feel exceptional. If the rate matched what we got, it could be a solid stay. As it is, it falls short and isn’t worth the price.

We loved the spacious rooms, the ocean view from the balcony, and both of the pools. The hotel is in a great spot, about a 10-minute walk to town. At check-in, Federica from the Front Desk was especially kind and friendly and went out of her way to help us, thank you! The serving staff were just as good, quick and attentive, and remembered details such as dietary restrictions. A perfect stay from beginning to end.

The location made it easy to walk to the main square and bus station, and I loved having two pools, two bars, and restaurants. The pool was refreshing, though some ceramic tiles needed attention. Staff were friendly and professional, with a lighthearted manner, and the hotel was clean and well kept. Food was excellent, and breakfast had loads of options, including eggs any way you could want, from fresh omelets to hard-boiled and poached. Two singers performed for us in the lounge, which felt beautiful and special. The lemon drop martini is perfecto! On August 15, we watched fireworks over the water from the rooftop bar. Sangria and music made it even more fun.
