Grand Hotel Vesuvio

We stayed for 10 nights and both loved it. The rooms are a little dated, but spacious and very clean, and all the staff were friendly. It was nice seeing familiar faces. The hotel’s free shuttle into the main part of sorrento was really useful, though we walked in quite often too. It only took about 20 minutes, and we didn’t find it too bad. We were half board. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, both hot and continental, with lots of drinks. We didn’t try dinner, but had lunch there a couple of times and really enjoyed the food. The Hugo spritz at the bar was the best one I had during my time in sorrento. Would recommend staying here.

The cleanliness was excellent, and the room and hotel were incredibly clean. The views were beautiful, and the staff we spoke with were genuinely nice. Food was hit or miss for us, though, and the biggest concern was that dishes weren’t labelled. Some contained alcohol with no indication, and when we asked about alcohol in desserts, the waiters didn’t know. That’s a real dietary and safety concern. Breakfast had little variety: the only daily change was a rotation between sausages and bacon, while everything else stayed the same. Drink and bar service was slow unless you paid cash. There is a shuttle into town, but sometimes it was overcrowded and people had to stand.

Michael took a lot of care to understand and meet our needs, kept in touch throughout, and was incredibly supportive. Carlos also kindly helped us with another room and arranged a lovely sea view, which we really appreciated. The bus shuttles into Sorrento were very convenient. Breakfast had a fairly limited selection, but the staff and service made up for that. We had a wonderful stay.

The views from the hotel are incredible, and the staff were quick, efficient, and happy to help with anything. The free shuttle to and from town was a big plus, since a taxi would cost €35.00 each way. We were on half board and the food was good. On a couple of occasions, we could switch dinner for lunch so we could eat out in town. I’d highly recommend the hotel and would stay again.
