Hotel Clitunno

The building itself is fascinating, and the rooms are large and comfortable, with every convenience I could think of. This is a massive, beautifully restored four star historic hotel, right in the best part of Spoleto, yet the prices were below B&B rates. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful. We booked directly for what was obviously the best deal. Best place in town.

The room and inside lounge were quaint, clean, and beautifully decorated. Ours was quiet and spacious as well. It’s a family run hotel in a central spot for Spoleto’s sights, with friendly, efficient staff. Breakfast was included, fresh, and had a great range of options. There are renovations underway, but they were planned so well that I didn’t hear the construction noise. By my next visit, the makeover should be finished.

The breakfast was tasty, the hotel has a good setup, and for the price, the central Spoleto location is good value. The route to the room felt a bit like a maze, but we didn’t get lost. Two things need attention. We were two women arriving with luggage, and there were several stairs on the way to our room. The man who showed us the way went ahead and didn’t offer to carry our bags until we were nearly there. He noticed then, but didn’t apologize. I expect a nice hotel to be more proactive about that. Also, there was hair all over the toilet, even on the walls. It was disgusting and shocking, unlike anything I’ve seen in a hotel. It looked as if someone had used a dirty towel to “clean” it. Apart from those two problems, the stay was good, and I’d recommend it for the value.

The front desk staff were nice, and I had no problems with my room or its bathroom. Breakfast pancakes were the best part, though they weren’t available every morning. The WiFi was patchy for me, and the phone signal in the room wasn’t very strong.
