Albergo Alt Spaur

The room was spacious, clean, and had a nice view, and I liked the breakfast pastries. That was about it for me. The staff were rude and unhelpful, and there’s no reception, which seems odd for a hotel. It was boiling in the room with no AC. Opening the window meant letting in bugs since there was no screen. The shower had no door, so water flooded the bathroom floor. We called beforehand and were told there was an iron in the room, but we weren’t allowed to take it there. Instead, they offered to iron our clothes for 5 euros per piece.

The rooms are comfortable and very clean, and the location is fantastic. After checkout I realized I’d left an earbud in my room. I’d already traveled to Hungary, but the owners kindly mailed it to me there. Really thoughtful people and wonderful service.

The food was a real letdown. The pasta I had was terrible, with frozen ragout, and I had a stomachache for two days afterward. Breakfast didn’t include any vegetables either. On the positive side, the rooms are very nice and newly renovated, and the balcony with its mountain view is a lovely extra.

We just had lunch at the hotel restaurant and enjoyed it. The menu isn’t huge, but there’s something for everyone. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the food was high quality and came out quickly.
