Cavour 10

The location was good, and the staff tried to help, but this was still one of my worst hotel stays in a while. We hadn’t chosen it in the first place, and I wouldn’t recommend it. We were sent here after the hotel we booked had not cleaned our room, something we only found out at 9 pm during check-in. Then we had to move rooms the next morning because ours was booked for that night. Inside, the building’s entrance and front rooms smelled of sewage. The rooms felt shabby, with plenty of things not working: the air conditioning barely cooled, the shower and sink wouldn’t drain, the wifi was nearly unusable, and there was no phone signal. You’re pretty much unreachable indoors. The door also wouldn’t stay shut unless locked. The blue rooms, one at the front and one at the back, were the only ones we liked. The pale red and pale yellow rooms were worn and odd. I really wanted to leave a good review, but I just can’t.

The place looks lovely from a distance, and Gonzalo did try to communicate with us. We’re sad we couldn’t feel comfortable staying there, but the owner wouldn’t back him up. We asked for our three-day stay to be refunded before even spending the first night. They said we might get partial credit if someone booked the room for the next two nights. Someone did book it for a lower price, but we never got any refund, and they stopped replying when we followed up. Our credit card claim was denied too. It’s disappointing when a business doesn’t keep its promises. The room’s condition and cleanliness were nowhere near what the photos suggested. We arrived at the agreed time and waited another ten minutes while they finished cleaning. They told us ten people had stayed in the rooms and left a mess. We understand previous guests can cause problems, but hearing that right before going in didn’t help. The entryway smelled awful. The room was so hot that the concierge took off his coat while showing it to us, even saying it was very hot. He was extremely nice and did his best, despite the place being poorly kept. We had to leave quickly for a reservation, but the air conditioning didn’t seem to work, so we left the window open even though it was winter. Then we saw ants crawling on the towels laid on the bed and asked for replacements. They changed them, but it made us worry about how clean the bed was. Looking more closely, we saw dirt on the bed and several broken bathroom items: the fan and toilet flush didn’t work, and there were no hand towels. Please book somewhere else. I almost never give one star, but this earned it.

Cavour10 was a horrible experience. The building was dark, dirty, and smelled of sewage. Our room’s window was left wide open, and we killed at least ten mosquitoes that night. I ended up with lots of bites on my arm. There was a telephone wire across the floor and over the doorway threshold, and both the sheet and blanket were stained, one with blood. We stayed five days without room service. Fresh towels were dropped off once, but nobody took the wet ones, and there wasn’t even anywhere to hang them. The hair dryer couldn’t be plugged into any outlet. I left wet towels and rubbish in bags in the lobby under the desk. The bathroom was tiny, like a closet. We had to ask Gonzalo for soap, shampoo, and a waste bin. There was no soap dish in the shower, so we had to set soap on the floor or open the door and toss it into the sink. The toilet flush cover was missing, and the wallpaper was marked and stained. The morning after our first night, I texted Gonzalo to ask if another room was available. He replied seven hours later that he needed to ask the owner. That was the last I heard from him for four more days. Don’t stay at CAVOUR 10, no matter what other reviews say.

The room looked lovely and was tidy, and the location is excellent. The mattress was really bad, though. Parking means using one of the many small city garages, at 30 euros a night. Breakfast was the biggest letdown: just coffee and one croissant at a nearby cafe.
