Pedra Residence

The volcano and sea views from the huge terrace were perfect. The staff were so friendly, and thanks to the young woman who brought us a lovely breakfast early since we had to leave.

I had a confirmed booking, but arrived to find the doors locked and no staff anywhere. I called several times and sent messages, but got no answer. It was winter on Stromboli, and by the time I understood they weren't letting me in, the last boat had left. I had no way back to Lipari or the mainland, no shelter, and nobody to help. I spent the night outside in freezing temperatures and complete darkness, with only the waves and volcano in the background. That's not what I booked. The hotel showed a shocking lack of care and responsibility. If you want somewhere dependable, don't book here unless being left on a remote island in winter sounds acceptable. A total disgrace. If I could rate it zero, I would.

The shower barely had any pressure, and there wasn't enough water for two people to shower. We were also told there was no breakfast, even though it was included in the price. The place meant to serve the all-you-can-eat breakfast was shut. Eventually they brought some food from a shop, but it wasn't enough for two, and I had to ask for it. No one answered the phone, including the number listed on Google, so we had to ask people at a shop to call the owner. Only then did someone come to check us in. I understand it was the end of the season, but if breakfast is part of the price, they should be prepared with an alternative when the usual place is closed, or not include it. This isn't a four-star hotel.

The studio flat worked perfectly for our short two-night visit to Stromboli, and it was comfortable with air conditioning. Breakfast was a short walk away in the town square, with pastries, fresh juice, and coffee. Everyone was welcoming, and they even prepared a takeaway breakfast for our last day since we had a 7:15 a.m. ferry to catch.
