Hotel Vello d'Oro

The rooftop terrace and bar shown on different platforms were the main reason we picked this hotel, but the terrace is being rebuilt and can't be used. It would've been courteous to tell guests before arrival. The air conditioner was another problem: when we asked for the remote, we were told it was controlled centrally, and there was no way to cool the room. The location is nice, but the hotel needs a lot of care. The chairs on the lower terrace were dusty enough to leave marks on our clothes. A few cushions and umbrellas would make a big difference. I'd stay somewhere else.

The balcony room gave us the best view, and the hotel's location is perfect. You can step straight onto the main street from the first floor. The bed was very hard, though, and breakfast really needs work. The choices were limited, with hard-boiled eggs but no scrambled ones. There's live music at the bar below every night until midnight. It didn't bother us, we actually enjoyed it.

We liked the terrace view and the location, and the staff were genuinely friendly. Breakfast was good too. The rooms have a slightly old-fashioned look, but that was fine with us.

Historic hotel, lovely staff, great spot, and incredible views. The café downstairs, though, was unbearably loud every night from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. An amateur musician covered 2000s hits with wonderfully imperfect pitch, ruining the familiar songs at truly unspeakable volume. It was impossible to sleep before 1. Without that noise, this would have been a solid 4.5.
