Hotel Aurelia

The pillows were very high and uncomfortable, and the cleanliness was only average. Noise carries clearly from the street and neighboring rooms. The tiny bathroom shower still has old-fashioned taps, and the furniture looks straight out of the 1970s. Walking into this hotel feels like going back in time. It may do for someone with no expectations, but by today’s standards it’s out of date.

The reception staff were kind and helpful, and the location was okay, not central but not too inconvenient. The building feels very dated. In our triple room, the air conditioning switch was awkwardly tucked behind a desk and wouldn’t work despite our attempts. The room seemed clean enough, though it wasn’t very attractive. The small bathroom was uncomfortable, the toilet sometimes leaked, and there were only two shower-gel sachets for three people. The elevator is down a flight of stairs.

For a two-star hotel, it’s clean and has been modernized. The location above the Aurelia highway makes it noisy, though. There’s no bar nearby, and reception is unattended for much of the day.

I asked to move rooms, but the same hygiene problems were there on the upper floor. The hotel is visibly dirty, with peeling walls, grimy bathroom fittings, and a broken shower door. There were old-looking fingerprints all over the doors. I was told maintenance is poor and hygiene varies at different times, but I still find it very serious. When I stepped out of the elevator, there were foul-smelling rags inside that made it hard to breathe. I absolutely won’t return.
