Hotel 2000

The breakfast was exceptional, with enough to keep Italians going for a fortnight, even though we didn't have time to try the restaurant. Our room was clean and nicely decorated, and even had a coffee machine, which I'm not used to. The hotel is right in the heart of Tarvisio, just steps from everything. It was a positive stay, and I wish we'd had longer. Maybe next time.

The restaurant was the standout for us. The food was inventive, delicious, and beautifully cooked, and the desserts were especially impressive in flavor, texture, and presentation. The hotel itself is modern, clean, comfortable, and well presented, on the edge of the town center. One small letdown was breakfast coffee: the machine serves instant coffee, while proper espresso is available at the bar for an extra charge. Otherwise, everything was excellent, and the hotel made a very good base for exploring the area.

For the price, I felt ripped off. We were there for one night on 1 April, and the restaurant was closed. Check-in from 4 pm means exactly that, the hotel stays closed until then. The bathroom smelled like an open drain, and the room was quite cold. Checkout is 9:30 am. Breakfast was mostly packaged items, with rolls, cheese, ham, and some fruit; the coffee machine's coffee was good, at least. The advertised pool belongs to someone else and costs €20pp for 2 hours.

I really can't see how this qualifies as a three-star hotel. It felt more like a poorly run Airbnb, and I would never return, even at half price. Check-in wasn't available during the time range shown on Booking. Instead, keys were left in an envelope on the windowsill outside, where anyone could take them, and there was no staff on site in the afternoon. The code-protected doors weren't working, either; they opened without a code. There's no bathroom ventilation, and mold is everywhere. By the bed, the socket was occupied by the small lamp, so we had to choose between charging a phone and using the light. Our socket was hanging out of the wall with visible wires, which was dangerous. Towels cost an extra 5€ per change, even though that service is normally free in other hotels. The accessibility lift for disabled people can take them to the first floor, but reaching it requires crossing a fairly big step, which seems ridiculous. Parking spaces are private but located on the street. Neighbors burned very smelly wood to heat their homes, so opening the window immediately brought a bonfire smell into the room. It's a pity they rely on the location and don't seem to care about quality or service.
