Hotel River Palace

The hotel was clean overall, and the staff were kind and helpful. The Wi-Fi connection and speed were really poor. In the bathroom, there's only a thin curtain rather than a glass shower screen, and there's no ventilation or shelf for soap or shampoo. We would've appreciated a bottle of water in the room. The restaurant food and service were good, though it was hard to communicate because the English was limited. The front desk was acceptable. The beach was clean, with fine sand.

I rarely give a place one star, but this one earned it. The room was dirty and had no shampoo when we arrived. The WiFi was advertised as free on Google Maps and TripAdvisor, yet we were charged 5 euro per device per day. Breakfast was terrible, with little choice and dirty silverware. Other tourists told me dinner was okay. The location was a fair distance from everything except the beach and supermarket. To visit town, you need 2 buses at 4.5 euro per person each way. Buses stop running after certain hours, so getting back means a taxi or Uber costing another 15-25 euro. On checkout day, we spent 7.5 hours in the lobby. The hotel wouldn't offer late checkout or let us rent a room for a day or half day. They said every room was sold out, but during all that time we didn't see anyone arrive to check in. It felt like they simply didn't want to help. The owner's daughter “Teresa” was the rudest person I've ever met. We asked why WiFi cost money when it was listed as free, and she said, “for you it’s not free, you’re with tourist group and it’s not free, you pay to have WiFi”. When I asked to see the policy, she refused and threatened to call the police just for asking. I spoke to the owner's brother about her behavior, but he wouldn't comment or apologize. The room, breakfast, WiFi, treatment, and long wait made for a terrible stay. If you're a tourist booking through a touring company, ask about choosing a different hotel. I can't imagine anyone wanting to go there.

The rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a basic but acceptable hotel, with an outdoor pool. Food at the hotel was good, and breakfast was continental style. There's a major supermarket nearby across a busy road, so watch the traffic if you need supplies. The beach is a short walk down a track, and Terracine's seafront is about 10 - 15 mins away on foot.

The restaurant deserves five stars from me. It only has a few dishes, but the ones we tried were outstanding. The room was clean, the air conditioning was decent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a nice hotel.
