Hotel Gasthof Zum Mohren

Top-notch.

The Holzner family’s passion for Gasthof Zum Mohren really comes through. All the generations work together so naturally, and we felt welcome right away. It’s an inviting place to stay in the Burggrafenamt region, with thoughtfully designed suites. We especially liked the hand-planed oak floor and castle views from the Panorama Suite, while the Organic Swiss Pine Suite had a comforting scent of Swiss pine wood. Both felt like stylish retreats. The cooking was phenomenal, with a level of care we rarely experience. We enjoyed it in the traditional dining room and on the sunny terrace. The sirloin steak with onion sauce and roasted potatoes was cooked perfectly, and the salmon fillet with wild garlic risotto was delicate. The attention to detail carries through to the wine, too. Castel Monreale Rosé (V.S.Q.), a sparkling wine from the Faedo vineyards in Trentino, was a delight. The family-owned Schloss Wehrburg winery also impressed us. The Holzner family grows grapes on sunny mid-mountain terraces in Prissian and uses their experience to make distinctive wines that reflect the area. A real gem for anyone who appreciates excellent food, wine from the family’s vineyards, and an authentic family atmosphere.

We had a great time at this comfortable, well-equipped hotel. The owners and staff were very kind. It’s in a lovely, tidy village, and I’d highly recommend staying here.
