Hotel Tirolo is centrally located in Tirolo, on a street with plenty of shops and restaurants. The area is beautiful, and the hotel makes an excellent base for exploring it. It's a sister property of Villa Maria, just a few steps from the gelateria, and guests can use its pool and loungers to unwind at the end of the day. Covered parking is available in the public lot on the main road. The hotel is above the gelateria and pastry shop, but don't expect breakfast to be connected to those businesses. The sweet and savory spread includes cold cuts, cheeses, eggs, low-fat yogurt with fresh fruit or crunchy toppings, water, orange juice, and coffee drinks such as cappuccino and latte. Rooms are spacious and clean, though not especially modern. They're cleaned and serviced daily, but have no air conditioning. Housekeeping staff are friendly and helpful, though they aren't especially attentive about restocking things like soap and toilet paper.

The view here is fantastic, and even though we've visited the Merano area several times, this place stands out. Our room was excellent, breakfast plentiful, and the host family friendly and helpful. Daily cleaning was superb. There's no fridge in the room, which was a small drawback. The hosts also provide a Merano-South Tyrol Card, so you can manage without a car. The train and bus services are free and very well coordinated. We'll be back!

The room itself was clean and adequate, and breakfast was plentiful, though the rolls were tough, as if left over from the day before. There were no tomatoes, cucumbers, or lettuce. Still, we won't stay here again. Getting settled was frustrating. We had to go down two floors to the ice cream parlor to check in, then climb back up two floors to our room. Booking.com said only the upper floors required stairs, but in reality every room was reachable only by stairs. The room we were first given had a red, long-pile shag rug, despite Booking.com describing wood or parquet floors, and it smelled strongly of something. After we complained, the manager eventually moved us to a room with a wooden floor. When we got our MeranCard, the manager also complained that she had to pay for our free bus rides. We wanted to sleep around 8:00 PM after being up and out since 5:00 AM, but the balcony lights were still bright. We couldn't find a switch, and the ice cream parlor told me they were turned off centrally sometime between 9:00 and 10:00 PM. We had to wait until then to open the windows without mosquitoes swarming in. At 6:30 AM each morning, the nearby church bells rang tinily and jolted us awake, so no alarm was needed. The closet had a jumble of plastic hangers that looked salvaged from store trash bins, and the linens were very old and patched several times.

At €130 a night, it felt overpriced. The room was dated, with a little shower and a toilet with no window. Otherwise it was okay, but I wouldn't call it three-star quality. Breakfast was also just okay.

A charming small hotel right in the village of Tirol, with very reasonable prices even during peak season. That's all I have to add.
