Casale Santa Barbara

We were happy to spend a lazy day right at the farmhouse, just as we might at home. The place has all the familiar comforts, and Phillipe and Camilla were wonderful hosts. The bedroom is roomy, the bed is comfortable, and screened windows let in fresh air without mosquitoes. We woke to birdsong and started the day with espresso. The countryside is beautiful, with soft hills, distant villages, and cloud-filled skies. From the front of the house, you can watch a gorgeous sunset over the western view with a glass of Brunelo. Inside, the old stone walls and brick arches give the farmhouse a warm, rustic feel, and the spacious kitchen is thoughtfully arranged. It’s wonderfully peaceful here, somewhere between Montepulciano and Pienza. We can’t wait to return.

The suite was spotless, warm in winter, and comfortably furnished with everything we needed. Our host was kind and helpful, too. It’s an easy base for visiting Pienza, Montepulciano, and San Quirico d'Orcia, with a breathtaking view from this welcoming, well-kept farmhouse, styled to suit the Val d'Orcia. Highly recommended.
