Casa Sclavo

We stopped for a casual Saturday lunch during our hike. It’s a small, cosy, family-run restaurant, and the food was delicious, made with fresh ingredients they produce themselves. Definitely worth a visit.

There’s no menu. The owners, an older Italian couple whose names I’ve unfortunately forgotten, tell you what they have. Their English is limited but enough to explain the dishes, which are all “0km,” made from local ingredients. The house wine is amazing, made from grapes you can see as you arrive. The all-inclusive price is under 20 euro per person. The views of the mountains and vineyards are outstanding, and it’s completely calm and quiet. The food is exceptional, the wine is amazing, and the service feels like being at home. It was a unique, splendid experience, like visiting your own grandparents who happen to live in a beautiful place in Italy.

My husband came across Azienda Agricola Casa Cavaliere on a morning run, and we’re so glad he did. Getting here means travelling inland from the Amalfi Coast, but it was the best meal of our stay. Filomena is warm and a wonderful cook, proud of her roots and happy to welcome people into her home. She made us an outstanding lunch, suggested what to have for each course, and paired everything with her own wine. Every dish was prepared fresh and delicious. Even with the language barrier, Filomena was lovely to talk to and wonderful with our son. We’re grateful for the memories and hope we can visit her again.

Come here for fresh air and a little peace, away from the crowded seafront and scorching sun. The scenery is beautiful, the food is fantastic, and the prices are great for such high-quality home cooking. Try the Concerto liquor, which is only found in this part of Amalfi. Highly recommended!
