The Harbor Luxury Living

Luxury means something very different to me. We were drawn in by the central location, the positive reviews (???), and the website, and booked the “Superior Evanescence.” The site describes it as a super-luxury cave room, once used to store fishing nets and equipment, with its original architecture preserved and dressed up in unconventional elegance. It promises tuff, wood, stone and plenty of marble, a gem in central Trani steps from the sea and cathedral, a romantic love retreat, plus a smart TV, Wi-Fi, and Bulgari toiletries. “Cave” is about the only accurate part. The room was tiny and accessible only by elevator, with no stairs. Its sole window was barred and looked onto the square. I had to insist before getting a copy of the keys, and I still wonder how I could have obtained one otherwise. Staying in a place like this with no emergency exits is remarkable. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t pick it. There was nowhere to put our things: no wardrobe, drawers, or bedside tables, just a rail with a hanger. Our suitcases and clothes ended up on the floor or piled wherever they fit. The outlets were directly behind the bed, so we had to move it to use them. The bathroom had no storage and nowhere for used towels. They never dried, which meant reusing them damp the next morning. And that one little Bulgari soap bar? We only found it on day two. On the first day we washed our hands with bubble bath. Being right on a square where people gather, with several restaurants, meant shouts and noise until the early hours on Saturday night. Then the garbage collectors started up. We couldn’t sleep. Sunday night was much the same, though a bit less bad. Breakfast on the terrace was a cappuccino, croissant, and fruit juice from the bar across the street, brought by Silvio, who was kind and helpful. He was the one bright spot, along with the central location. He listened to my complaints and did what he could to make the stay less unpleasant. I’m grateful for his courtesy and kindness. At last the two nights were over, and we left relieved. Parking is on the street, and finding an empty space was difficult. I hope the Trani municipality doesn’t fine me because of the ZTL. I’m sorry to leave such a negative review, but you can’t promise and charge for things so far from reality.
