Tenuta Le Cave

We used the winery as a base for sightseeing in Verona. It’s tucked away from the usual routes, but well worth the drive. We wouldn’t have found it without our wonderful travel agent, Rita from Cultural Italy.

We’ll be back! We loved the place, especially the amazing views from the rooms, pool and restaurant. Roberto and the rest of the staff were wonderful. Best wishes from Sweden!

The hotel is beautiful and sits in a gorgeous location, which makes how disappointing our honeymoon stay was all the harder. We expected this to be the best night of our trip, but left very let down. We stayed at six other hotels, including ones with tasting dinners, and had a much better experience elsewhere. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. We’d already had trouble trying to move our booking after a death in the family. Other hotels where we had non-refundable rooms let us reschedule for later in the year if we paid the rate difference. Here, we were told that couldn’t be done because of the accounts. We only booked again because we’d received a €250 voucher as a wedding gift. It was meant for dinner and massages, but rescheduling used up most of it. We tried to put that behind us and relax, but on arrival nobody mentioned our honeymoon or welcomed us with anything beyond the breakfast times. We were told there was a wine tasting at 5 pm, but that we couldn’t book it that day. Instead, they said the sommelier could explain the wines if we added wine to our tasting dinner. Since that was the only option and it was our first dinner of the honeymoon, we agreed. We asked if we could buy a small lunch or snack, but the girl checking us in seemed annoyed and said they might ask the chef if he’d be willing to make something. We didn’t feel welcome to take her up on that, so we moved dinner earlier instead, and were made to feel as if that was a favor. At the pool, a waiter was serving other guests, but nobody offered us food or drinks. Dinner was the worst part. The four courses came so quickly that the meal was over in 50 minutes. The wine pours were small, and there was no explanation of how the wines paired with the dishes, so it wasn’t the tasting experience we’d been led to expect. It was my husband’s first tasting menu. I’ve had many, and was very disappointed by the food quality, especially since it was the most expensive meal of our trip. When the courses ended, nobody asked if we wanted coffee or another drink. We waited at least 20 minutes, then got up ourselves. After that, we had to keep going to reception to order cocktails. Throughout the stay, we had to seek out reception for drinks, pool towels and anything else we needed. Staff never offered, and their general attitude wasn’t very good. When checking out, we tried to raise our concerns with the woman there, but got what felt like a non-apology and no sign that they cared about our feedback. Later, after the hotel asked us by email to share feedback or a review, I sent the same comments and received no reply. At checkout, the receptionist did agree that dinner had been very fast, but offered nothing else.
