Maison Matilda Boutique Hotel & Spa

The hotel is stylish, beautiful, and thoughtfully put together, with the main areas close by. It could be a pleasant stay if you’re flexible, but the lack of dependable help on site made things less convenient than we expected. The owner or manager was friendly, but wasn’t at the property all the time, and arrival and departure could have gone more smoothly. We came as a large group: the first people checked in without trouble, while the second group waited about fifteen minutes outside. The front door was shut, nobody answered the bell, and they couldn’t get in or park their car. When we were leaving, nobody was there either. I messaged the owner, who said she’d come, but she didn’t arrive when promised. We had to pay the city tax, so we found cash and left it on the table. Luckily, we had enough. We also had to work out how to open the garage and secure the property ourselves.

We’d paid for the room in advance, and there was an initial charge for three nights instead of two. I assumed it was a translation issue. Two days before we arrived, we got a reminder email, but when we showed up, they had no room for us. They put us in a room used by staff, and it hadn’t been cleaned for our arrival. There were clothes, personal belongings, open alcohol, and dirty towels. I tried to find somewhere else to stay but couldn’t. I emailed the owner four times and never got a reply.

Maison Matilda is centrally located, so we could walk everywhere and had plenty of dinner choices close by. Emiliano and Viviana were fantastic hosts. Our room was comfortable, with simple, elegant, and tasteful furnishings. The stay exceeded our expectations.

Worst host experience I’ve had. After a week of being pampered in other luxury hotels, this place ruined the end of my visit. It lacked the charm, authenticity, and honesty I expected from Mr.Mrs.Smith. I may avoid Treviso and Mr.Mrs. hotel selections in future. It felt like a complete SCAM. The walls were paper thin. People in the next room talked until 2:00 am and snored until 8:00, so I got no sleep. There was no morning shower, no apology, and no admission on Wapp or in the morning. The owner denied the issue and said she checks the rooms daily, even though the plumber was there at 9 am. On arrival things were abrupt, and check-in was self-service. We were told breakfast was only between 8 and 9 and that we could leave the car until 1500 the next day. Instead, it had been moved without permission to an area where cars were towed. The shower was cold or lukewarm, and the bathtub moved by itself. Other guests got preferential treatment, with muesli, yogurt, a teapot, and fruit. We got only a teabag in a cup and one brioche, which was abruptly taken away from my place setting. There was no choice.
